Introduction

This 9 session course will cover all the key doctrinal teachings of Christianity that have been taught throughout the history of the Church. We will be drawing our information from the teachings of the Catholic and Protestant Church concerning what the Bible teaches and Sacred Tradition, or how those teachings were interpreted. We will also draw from Judaism in some cases.

If you would like to take this course and have any questions or comments please e-mail Pastor Brian.

As you study the various doctrines, ask yourself the following questions; "how are we different and the same as our Catholic or Protestants brethren doctrinally?" What teachings and practices do we have today that did not exist throughout the history of Christianity? Are we not indebted to those who have gone before us?

To Protestants I ask the following questions; "how many doctrines do we believe today that existed prior to the Reformation?" (The New Testament Canon, various key doctrines such as the Trinity, the deity of Christ and many others as well as many of our "traditions.") I also pose the question; "do we really know what Luther taught and how many of our present doctrines would be foreign to him?"

To Catholics I ask you to consider the following questions; "were not the concerns of the Reformers legitimate concerns for the day?" Is the Catholic Church not in need of ongoing reforms? Is the Catholic Church not in need of serious change concerning its neglect in Bible study and catechesis of its members, of which the Protestant church excels? I conclude that we need each other.
